Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense reported five Chinese aircraft sorties, six naval vessels and nine official ships around Taiwan during the twenty-four hours ending at 6 a.m. on October 19. The reporting period began at 6 a.m. on October 18, Taiwan time. According to the ministry, three sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line and entered areas to Taiwan’s north, centre and southwest. Taiwan’s armed forces used mission aircraft, ships and coastal missile systems to monitor and respond to the activity. The naval and official-ship categories together account for fifteen vessels. The bulletin lists aircraft activity as sorties, a measure of flights rather than necessarily five different aircraft. These figures are official Taiwanese observations and have not been independently verified by Taiwan Observer. This update records a new reporting period; the figures should be read within that window, rather than treated as a count of forces present at this moment.
